For Immediate Release: NOVEMBER 15, 2002

SAVE THE DATE: TUESDAY AT 2 P.M. EDT

GLOBAL AIDS PRESS CONFERENCE CALL WITH GLOBAL FUND CHIEF RICHARD FEACHEM, JEFFREY SACHS, HEALTH GAP and RESULTS

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Director Richard Feachem will discuss the fund's cash crunch and funding gap for the next two years. Jeffrey Sachs, director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University will discuss the global and U.S. funding picture and along with U.S. activists, will announce a worldwide call on President Bush for a Presidential AIDS Initiative on global prevention, treatment, and access to medicines.

Why now: Because the Global Fund faces a cash crunch and a funding gap "and any delay now will be measured by millions of lives lost and billions of dollars of additional cost..." (Feachem); because President Bush is planning a trip to Africa and the administration is preparing next year's budget; and because of World AIDS Day (December 1).

The call is sponsored by RESULTS and Health GAP (Global Access Project)

To sign up for the call, or for more information, call Sarah Harre at 202-783-7100 x129, or email harre@results.org. Please be ready to provide a direct dial phone number where an operator can reach you Tuesday at 2pm ET to connect you to the call. We can also provide a toll-free dial-in number.
