WAR ON DRUGS=BARRIER TO HIV TREATMENT

Thailand can be commended for their efforts to treat HIV/AIDS with affordable, lifesaving medications for all the people who need it.  Thailand has bravely withstood serious pressure from the powerful pharmaceutical company lobby to be able to use their right to compulsory licenses.

However, the Thai government, on April 2, 2008 recommitted themselves to a drug policy that provides the police with special powers and when last enacted in 2003, resulted in the murder of over 2700 people, many of whom had nothing to do with drugs.
