Health GAP was successful in winning a commitment for the US to work with countries to achieve 2.3 health professionals per 1,000 residents, including direct support for training and retaining 140,000 new health professionals, in the reauthorization of the US Global AIDS Plan.

However, we need to make sure that this actually happens!

• Our campaign for health care workers is calling on the Obama administration to select a bold and visionary Global AIDS Coordinator who will work with countries to develop, implement and fund plans to achieve 2.3 health professionals and 1.8 auxiliary health care workers per 1,000 residents.
• In addition, Health GAP calls on Congress (Foreign Operations Subcommitee) to include $10 billion in FY10 in bilateral programs, to allow full funding for health care workers.
