Campaigns Global ACCESS Take Action Now
The US Global AIDS Plan

Sign up to join the Fall 2010 Campaign to End the Waiting Lists

Are you concerned about growing waiting lists for treatment around the world? Do you know a group that wants to campaign around funding for global AIDS this fall through World AIDS Day (December 1st)? Health GAP, as a part of our TakeANumber.org campaign, will soon be releasing a campaign kit that groups can use to join the campaign to pressure Obama to keep his promise to fund global AIDS programs. If we all join, then we can have a strong coalition advocating in sync with each other to demand that Obama and Congress keep their promises to fund global AIDS programs. | Learn more

Stand up with LGBT Ugandans - Tell Congress to condemn the Uganda Anti-Homosexuality Bill

The Anti-Homosexuality bill currently before the Ugandan Parliament is not only a gross violation of human rights, but it sets back progress made on HIV prevention and treatment. HIV+ LGBT Ugandans would be less likely to seek testing and treatment, and become sick and die faster as a result of this legislation. In the US, a bipartisan group of Senators and Representatives have introduced a resolution that condemns this bill. | Email your Representatives and tell them to co-sponsor a Congressional Resolution to condemn the Anti-Gay bill

Since so many people want to stay up to date on key AIDS issues, but don't have time to sort through and read dozens (hundreds?) of emails in order to keep up, Health GAP is planning to start a new program called Global ACCESS* to help bridge the gap between a desire to help fight AIDS at home and abroad and the knowledge, opportunity, and skills base to take action.

This will be done in a few ways:

  • Monthly conference calls on specific AIDS issues or skills to win campaigns, where you will have the chance to learn and ask questions from experts in their field
  • Regular opportunities to take action on key campaigns
  • In person organizing meetings in NYC (w/ NYC AIDS Housing Network) | download flier

This program will be expanding over the next year as well, with other ways to stay involved and up to date, including a communications fellowship for new leaders who are looking to make their mark.

At this time, if you are interested in joining this network, please email Kaytee at kaytee at healthgap.org with your name, email, phone, organizational affiliation, title (if you have one) and your city and state.  Or click here to sign up online!

Also, please feel free to pass the word to friends and allies who may also be interested. Anyone is welcome to join, from veteran activists and professionals to people who want to know more about how they can help fight AIDS, but just aren't sure how to help.

* ACCESS currently stands for AIDS Coalition for Civic Engagement and Smart Solutions, although if you have a better suggestion for what it could stand for, let us know!
